In February a peaceful protest was held at Norfolk County Council.

Following the Protest, members of Norwich XR took the same questions to their local district council.
In an effort to persuade our local District Council to declare a Climate Emergency, both Nick and I submitted questions to the Full Council Meeting of the North Norfolk District Council on 27 February.
These questions only needed to give a brief outline of the issue to be raised. We chose to attend quietly as individual members of the electorate. However, the very mention of Climate ensured that two police officers were in attendance! (This was two weeks after XR’s protest at County Hall)
Both of our questions, stating facts of the disaster that lies ahead for our coastal region concluded in asking for a Climate Emergency to be declared. The Councils response on the night was disappointing and self -congratulatory.
Nick then wrote to Sarah Butikofer, Lib Dem Chair, asking for clarification. She responded by inviting us both to a meeting with a small group of supportive councillors. This proved to be very positive and we left feeling optimistic that they would declare very soon.
Political wheels turn very slowly and tactically, however NNDC declared a Climate Emergency on 25 April, just before the local elections.
